Built Around One Principle: Advanced Medicine and Real Human Attention
Mangala Hospital & Mangala Kidney Foundation was established in 1988 on Kadri Road, Mangalore, with a simple aim — to bring dependable, technologically advanced healthcare within reach of the local community. What began as a general hospital grew steadily into a multispeciality centre as new departments, equipment and specialists joined over the decades.
In 1990, the hospital formally established the Mangala Kidney Foundation, reflecting a growing focus on urology, nephrology and dialysis care that has since become one of our defining strengths. Since then, the same approach — building deep expertise in focused areas while remaining a full-service hospital — has shaped our Eye Foundation, ENT Centre and Centre for Thoracoscopy.
Today, Mangala Hospital serves patients from premature infants to the elderly, offering everything from routine investigations to complex surgery, and remains guided by its founding motto: "Saving Life is Our Motto — We Care."
Milestones Along the Way
Mangala Hospital opens its doors on Kadri Road, Mangalore, offering general medical and surgical care to the local community.
The Mangala Kidney Foundation is established, bringing focused expertise in urology, nephrology and dialysis care under one roof.
Mangala Kidney Foundation introduces Extra Corporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy (ESWL) — the first hospital in the district to offer this painless, outpatient stone-treatment procedure.
Laparoscopic urological procedures begin, followed soon after by Holmium YAG laser lithotripsy — among the first units of its kind in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi, and one of the first in India.
Mangala Kidney Foundation becomes the first private (non-medical-college) hospital in Mangalore permitted to perform Renal Transplantation under the Transplantation of Human Organs Act.
Hospital records document Government recognition for Corneal Transplant surgery under the Transplantation of Human Organs Act, 1994 (Certificate No. MDM/4/2007-08).
The Charity Beds programme begins — general-ward beds offered free of charge to patients who cannot afford treatment, supported by the Mangala Charitable Trust.
The Medtronic STEALTH S8 Neuro-ENT surgical navigation system is inaugurated — the first multidisciplinary surgical navigation technology of its kind in Mangalore, enabling keyhole skull-base and sinus procedures with greater precision and safety.
Mangala Hospital continues to develop as a multispeciality hospital with coordinated clinical departments, operation theatres, diagnostic imaging and critical-care support for patients across Mangalore and Dakshina Kannada.

Dr. Ganapathi P.
A founding consultant of Mangala Hospital in 1988, with decades of experience in anaesthesiology and critical care management. As Chairman, he continues to guide the hospital's clinical direction and growth.
Over more than three decades, Dr. Ganapathi P. has helped grow Mangala Hospital from a general hospital into a multispeciality centre spanning nephrology, ophthalmology, ENT and other clinical services. As Chairman, he supports clinical governance, structured quality systems and continued investment in critical-care infrastructure and specialist talent.
Dr. Anitha G Bhat
Co-founder of Mangala Hospital, with a long-standing focus on patient safety and comfort across every procedure. As Vice Chairman, she plays a key role in shaping the hospital's patient-first culture.
Alongside her clinical work in anaesthesiology, Dr. Anitha G Bhat has been closely involved in shaping the hospital's patient care standards as it has grown into a multispeciality centre. As Vice Chairman, she works alongside the leadership team on quality of care, staff training and the hospital's ongoing focus on accessible, compassionate treatment.
