Mangala Hospital's Coronary Care Unit provides high-dependency monitoring for patients whose heart condition needs closer observation than a general ward can provide. It sits within the hospital's wider Anaesthesia & Critical Care set-up alongside the Medical ICU, Post-Operative ICU and neonatal services.
The unit is equipped with fully motorised patient cots, multipara monitors and ventilator support shared across the hospital's critical-care services. Continuous ECG, blood pressure, oxygen-saturation and respiratory monitoring helps the CCU team identify important changes promptly.
Two capabilities set the unit apart from a standard cardiac ward: an in-unit temporary pacemaker facility for patients with dangerously slow or unstable heart rhythms, and the ability to perform dialysis within the CCU itself for patients whose heart condition is complicated by acute kidney involvement. Both are managed without moving a haemodynamically unstable patient elsewhere in the hospital. The unit works in daily coordination with the Cardiology team and with Casualty for patients arriving with a suspected cardiac emergency.

Each CCU bed supports continuous observation of ECG rhythm, blood pressure, oxygen saturation and respiratory rate. Motorised cots help the team reposition unstable patients safely for comfort, ventilation and bedside procedures while monitoring remains uninterrupted.
For selected patients with dangerously slow or unstable heart rhythms, temporary pacing can be initiated under intensivist supervision. In-unit access reduces avoidable transfer while the underlying cause is treated or longer-term rhythm management is planned.
When a cardiac condition is complicated by acute kidney injury or fluid overload, haemodialysis can be coordinated at the bedside with the Nephrology team. The patient remains within the monitored critical-care environment throughout treatment.

Yes. When a cardiac patient also has kidney involvement, our CCU is equipped to perform haemodialysis at the bedside, coordinated with Nephrology, so cardiac monitoring is never interrupted for a dialysis session.
Both. The intensivist manages continuous monitoring and any emergency stabilisation, while the Cardiology team is directly involved in diagnosis and the ongoing treatment plan for each patient.
This varies with the underlying condition — from a day or two of observation after a procedure to a longer stay for a major cardiac event. Patients step down once their condition is stable enough for a general cardiac ward.
