Our Audiology & Speech-Language Pathology service brings this assessment pathway together in close coordination with our ENT (Otolaryngology) consultants — Dr. Mahesh, Dr. Sriharsha Thulupule and Dr. Rukma Bhandary.
A typical assessment looks at how well a patient hears across different sound frequencies, how their middle ear is functioning, and — where relevant — how clearly they produce and understand speech. This applies across age groups: newborns and young children being checked for hearing or developmental speech delay, school-age children with stammering or articulation difficulties, and adults with age-related, noise-induced or sudden hearing loss, or hearing changes after an ear infection or ear surgery.
Close integration with ENT gives patients access to the same operating microscope and surgical expertise used for ear conditions at Mangala Hospital. If an assessment identifies a structural or surgically treatable cause of hearing loss, the patient can move directly from diagnostic evaluation to the appropriate ENT treatment pathway.

Hearing is assessed through standard audiometric testing that maps how well sound is detected across different frequencies, alongside a check of middle-ear function. This tells us whether a hearing difficulty is due to the outer or middle ear, the inner ear or nerve pathway, or a combination — the starting point for deciding whether the next step is medical treatment, a hearing aid, surgery, or simple monitoring.
