An All-Inclusive ENT & Head-Neck Programme
Mangala Hospital's ENT Centre provides coordinated care for ear, nose, throat and head-and-neck conditions — from routine assessment to micro-ear, sinus and skull-base surgery.
Advanced microscopes, endoscopes, laser systems and the Medtronic STEALTH S8 Neuro-ENT Navigation System support precise treatment, with ENT and Neurosurgery working together for appropriate complex cases. This integrated approach helps patients receive diagnosis, treatment and follow-up in one place.
Conditions We Treat
Now with Neuro-ENT Navigation
The Medtronic STEALTH S8 system, inaugurated in January 2023, brings image-guided precision to complex sinus, skull-base and ear surgery.

From district firsts in laser ENT surgery to Mangalore's first Neuro-ENT navigation system.
A 25W high-powered Diode Laser and 30W CO2 Laser system are introduced for ENT surgery — for the first time in Mangalore and Dakshina Kannada district — enabling precise laser treatment for nasal, ear, throat and laryngeal conditions.
Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery (FESS) is offered for the first time in the district, using nasal endoscopes with a three-chip camera and Xenon light source.
The Medtronic STEALTH S8 Neuro-ENT Navigation System is inaugurated at Mangala Hospital, with guests of honour Prof. Dr. A. Raja, Prof. Dr. N. Shanker and Prof. Dr. Sathish Bhandary — the first multidisciplinary surgical navigation technology of its kind in Mangalore.
The ENT Centre combines its established micro-ear and laser surgery programme with image-guided navigation for complex sinus, skull-base and pituitary procedures, performed jointly with our Neurosurgery team.
Established Expertise, Genuinely Current Technology
Medtronic STEALTH S8 Neuro-ENT Navigation
Inaugurated January 2023 — image-guided surgical navigation for sinus, skull-base and pituitary procedures, described by its makers as "the GPS for precision surgery."
Karl Zeiss Operating Microscope
Advanced optics dedicated to micro-ear surgery, including stapedectomy and myringoplasty, for precision under high magnification.
First District Hospital for Laser ENT Surgery
25W Diode and 30W CO2 laser systems, introduced for the first time in Mangalore and Dakshina Kannada district.
FESS, First in the District
Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery for chronic sinusitis and nasal polyps, done through natural nasal passages with no external incision.
Reduced Risk Near the Eye & Brain
Navigation-guided sinus surgery reduces the risk of injury to the eye and surrounding structures during complex procedures.
24x7 ENT Emergency
Nasal bleeds, foreign body emergencies and acute ENT trauma are managed round the clock through our Casualty department.
From Micro-Ear Surgery to Image-Guided Navigation

Medtronic STEALTH S8 Neuro-ENT Navigation
This system integrates pre-operative imaging with live intraoperative data using infrared cameras and specialised instruments, functioning like a GPS for the surgeon during delicate procedures. In ENT surgery, it reduces the risk of eye injury, vision loss or bleeding during sinus surgery, and enables endoscopic skull-base procedures for pituitary tumours, CSF leaks and temporal bone conditions while helping preserve hearing and balance. The same platform also supports keyhole brain tumour procedures and trans-nasal pituitary surgery performed jointly with our Neurosurgery team, extending its use well beyond routine ENT cases.

Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery (FESS)
FESS treats chronic sinusitis, nasal polyps and related conditions using a nasal endoscope with a three-chip camera and Xenon light source, viewed on an LCD monitor — done entirely through the nostrils, with no external incision. Combined with our navigation system for anatomically complex cases, it offers a precise, minimally invasive alternative to traditional sinus surgery.

Laser ENT Surgery & Micro-Ear Procedures
Our 25W Diode and 30W CO2 laser systems — the first of their kind in Mangalore and Dakshina Kannada district — are used across nasal, ear, throat and laryngeal conditions, from tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy to snoring surgery and laryngeal lesions, valued for their precision, minimal bleeding and faster recovery. Micro-ear surgery, including stapedectomy and myringoplasty, is performed under our Karl Zeiss operating microscope.
Your Care Journey, Step by Step
Consultation
An initial ENT assessment, including endoscopic examination where relevant to your symptoms.
Imaging & Planning
CT or MRI imaging as needed, loaded into the navigation system in advance for complex sinus or skull-base cases.
Treatment or Surgery
Medical management, laser procedure, FESS, or navigation-guided surgery, matched to your diagnosis.
Recovery & Follow-Up
Most ENT procedures involve a short hospital stay, with scheduled follow-up to confirm healing.

Frequently Asked Questions
It is an image-guided surgical navigation system, inaugurated at Mangala Hospital in January 2023, that fuses pre-operative scans with live intraoperative tracking — helping surgeons operate with greater precision near the eye, skull base and brain.
FESS is a minimally invasive procedure done entirely through the nostrils using an endoscope, with no external cuts. Most patients go home within a day or two, with a shorter recovery than traditional open sinus surgery.
No — laser techniques are generally associated with less bleeding, more precision and faster post-operative recovery compared with conventional surgical instruments, for the conditions where they are appropriate.
Yes. The system supports endoscopic skull-base and trans-nasal pituitary procedures, performed jointly by our ENT and Neurosurgery teams to reduce risk and preserve surrounding structures — an approach that avoids the larger incisions traditional pituitary surgery would otherwise require.
Our Karl Zeiss operating microscope supports procedures such as stapedectomy and myringoplasty for chronic ear infections, hearing loss and eardrum perforation.
